Using the Lumecca™ Intended Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, Dr David Jack reduces and removes visible veins and pigmentation, restoring a clear complexion and rejuvenating skin tone. As an international key opinion leader (KOL) for Lumecca treatments, Dr Jack has performed several thousand treatments using this technology.

What is Lumecca™ Intended Pulsed Light Therapy?

The Lumecca™ IPL therapy is a powerful and effective treatment that reduces and removes specific pigments in the skin, from redness and spider veins to discoloured patches. This popular anti-aging treatment is a quick treatment with visible results after the first one to two sessions.

It is particularly successful in removing age spots (red/brown pigmentation), sun damage, vascular lesions (spider veins, port wine stains, leg telangectasias), rosacea, freckles, acne scarring and melasma. Lumecca™ can be used on any part of the body with excellent results.

How does Lumcca™ work?

The Lumecca™ IPL laser uses photo-thermolysis through the delivery of specific wavelengths of light which interact with red and brown pigments in the skin. These pigments absorb the light and are destroyed, often in one session. Lumecca has a high specificity and selectivity for pigmentation and redness created by sun damage and is one of the most powerful treatments for this purpose.

From £250 per session per area.

What happens at the appointment?

After a consultation and assessment, Dr. Jack will apply an ultrasound gel to the area being treated. The eyes will be protected with goggles and the hand piece will be applied to the skin surface to deliver the pulses of light. During the Lumecca™ treatment, there will be bright flashes of light from the Lumecca™ hand piece that feel like a light elastic band sensation against the surface of the skin. Usually the treatment lasts for around 5-10 minutes and the skin will feel slightly ‘sunburnt’ afterwards.

Is downtime required after the treatment?

Downtime is minimal following Lumecca™ treatments and most patients experience almost no downtime. Redness and a slight warming of the skin like a sunburn are normal after treatment and normally subside over the first few hours following the treatment. In the days following the treatment, there may be some swelling and very occasionally bruising in areas being treated for thread veins or vascular lesions. Brown pigment often gets darker over the days following the treatment and then either flakes off or is absorbed by the body. Final results are usually evident by day 10-14.

Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment.  It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning for a few weeks post treatment. For the first day following treatment, it is advised that no skincare products are used on the skin other than aloe vera and SPF on the day after the treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

At your first appointment, Dr Jack will assess your skin and talk through your specific requirements. He will create a bespoke treatment plan to suit you, depending on the severity of skin damage and type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) required. Usually between 1 and 3 sessions will be required depending on the severity of the sun damage present.

How quickly will I see results?

Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen within a few days of the first session. The skin will continue to look clearer over time with the most visible results after one to two weeks.

Having multiple photofacial sessions will improve the final results. For vascular treatments such as thread veins, results can often be seen immediately with optimum results visible within 2 weeks.

You may see a darkening of pigmented spots over the first 24-48 hours following your treatment. Over the course of the week the treated pigmentation will flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone.

After treatment for vascular lesions such as thread veins you may see the vein blanch and disappear, or a colour change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

How long does Lumcca™ last?

Although in some cases, the removal of pigmentation issues may be long lasting, often a maintenance session is advisable every 6-12 months following the initial treatment course.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes - Lumecca™ is suitable to be used in combination with other treatments to enhance the appearance and texture of the skin.

What parts of the body can Lumcca™ be used on?

Lumecca™ can be used on all areas of the body. The most commonly treated areas are those that are most frequently exposed to the sun, i.e. the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms.

What steps must be taken before the procedure?

Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment.

Is it safe?

Lumecca™ has been FDA approved to treat Fitzpatrick Skin types I-IV.
