Dr. David Jack is one of the first doctors in the UK to offer Theraclear™ Acne Therapy at his clinic in Harley Street, London. This powerful state-of-the-art treatment that tackles the various causes of acne in one go.
What is Theraclear™ Acne Treatment?
Theraclear™ Acne Treatment is an IPL (intense pulsed light) based treatment designed to target cystic, inflammatory, nodulocystic, comedonal, and pustular acne on the face or body. It combines vacuum with a source of IPL that directly interacts with the bacteria underlying the acne process to unblock pores, destroy the P. Acne bacteria as well as reducing redness of the skin and prevent excess sebum production. It can safely be used as a standalone treatment or in combination with other acne treatments such as retinoids.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THERACLEAR™?
This skin care treatment will unblock and reduce the size of pores on the face or body, destroy bacteria, reduce redness, prevent excess sebum creation, treat acne cysts and reduce future breakouts. Patients will have clearer skin, reduced pores and flattened acne lesions which will disappear over time. The treatment does not discriminate between the different causes of acne and can be effective in cases that have not responded to topical treatments.
How does Theraclear™ Acne Treatment work?
Theraclear™ reduces the number of blackheads in the affected skin area via strong suction of the blocked pores with a special vacuum, extracting the trapped sebum. The blue light IPL treatment then targets and destroys the P. Acne bacteria and targets the sebaceous gland, preventing further excess production of sebum. Acne cysts will be punctured and debris removed, providing immediate relief and aesthetic benefit.

Theraclear™ is an extremely simple treatment. After consultation, Dr. Jack will clean the skin with a strong antiseptic and may manually extract some blocked pores. After this, he will pass the Theraclear™ hand piece over the skin in two passes. It is recommended that 6-8 treatments are performed, one week apart.
Theraclear™ is one of the most comfortable light-based treatments for acne available. You will feel a suction sensation and a warm pulse but it is not painful.
Each treatment lasts around 15 minutes.
Downtime is very minimal, with a very tiny risk of some redness after the treatment. Very occasionally some bruising may result from the vacuum part of the treatment. This usually subsides in a few days.
Usually between six and eight treatments are required, spaced seven to ten days apart, at our clinic in Harley Street, London.

There are four main factors that cause acne - clogged pores, oil production, bacteria – P. Acne that stimulates inflammation and internal body environment (hormones).
Acne is a complicated process, caused in part by blocked hair follicles and excessive sebum production. The overproduction of sebum causes the hair follicles to swell, and when dead skin cells on the surface of the skin forms a ‘plug’ in the hair follicle they can become colonised by the bacteria P. Acne. This plug can result in the appearance of ‘whiteheads’ and ‘blackheads’. Colonisation by this bacteria is caused by a number of factors, including our hormone levels. When the hair folicles and pores are colonised, it often results in some inflammation, giving rise to the red, swollen appearance of acne. The Theraclear™ Acne Treatment addresses these causes and symptoms with great results.
Although there is an increased risk of skin sensitivity whilst on Roaccutane, we usually find that Theraclear™ is safe to be used at a low setting with patients on Roaccutane (Isotretinoin) treatment for acne.
As with any light based treatments there is a small risk of inflammation and post-inflammatory pigmentation in Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI. If there is any concern then Dr. Mennie or Izabela Pawlitka will perform a test patch prior to your Theraclear™ treatment.
